Hurricane Laura topples slaver statue

Lake Charles in Louisiana voted only two weeks ago to keep a slaver monument installed on courthouse property. Hurricane Laura had other plans, toppling it like a domino.

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury voted 10-4 Aug. 13 to let the South's Defenders Monument remain on the grounds of a courthouse in Lake Charles. … Twitter posts Thursday morning showed images of the monument with the general in pieces on the ground.

I once nearly took a job in Lake Charles, but the general vibe of "heat, hurricanes and racists" kept my pen from the dotted line.
