Female dog gives birth to the World's first genetically identical twin puppies (photos)

Outside of humans and one species of armadillo, identical twins seem to be extremely rare. Now for the first time a bitch has given birth to a pair of identical twins in South Africa's Rant en Dal Animal Hospital.
Vet. Dr Kurt de Cramer was performing a Caesarean section on a female Irish wolfhound that showed distress and prolonged abdominal straining when she was due to give birth but noticed something abnormal.
Dr Cramer said he noticed that the wolfhound had an unusual bulging by her uterus.
At first Dr Cramer thought the lump was excess fluid surrounding the foetus and then painstakingly extracted the foetus from the bulge by making an incision into the dog's uterus only to find not one, but two foetuses. They were both attached with umbilical cords to the same placenta.
Speaking to BBC, he said
"When I realised that the puppies were of the same gender and that they had very similar markings, I also immediately suspected that they might be identical twins having originated from the splitting of an embryo," says de Cramer.
He could not stop and marvel at this peculiar discovery, because there were still five live puppies to deliver. Cramer says it was the first time de Cramer had delivered two living pups from one placenta in 26 years of practice.
He had to call his team of Animal gynecology specialists who obtained blood samples of the twins when they were two weeks old and confirmed they were twins.
"The twins looked very similar," says Dr Joone Carolynne of James Cook University in Townsville, Australia . "But pups from the same litter often do, [and] there were small differences in the white markings on their paws, chests and the tips of their tails. I wasn't sure they were monozygotic [identical] at all initially."
De Cramer  and his team had therefore delivered the first known instance of monozygotic twin dogs and when the twins were six weeks old the team again took DNA samples, this time from their tissue rather than their blood which also confirmed they were identical twins.
It is hard to know, says Joone to BBC. "We are so lucky that this bitch ended up having a C-section," she explains, because otherwise it is unlikely her owners would have noticed.\
"Yes, there would have been one less placenta than there were pups, but as the bitch often eats the placentas the owner probably would have simply shrugged this off. There have been rumours about twins in dogs before," says Joone. "We just happened to be lucky enough to be able to confirm it genetically. It has taken so long for us to find a monozygotic pair, so they are probably rare," says Joone. "But so many of them will have been born naturally and blissfully unaware."

Mayor of Dover, England, filmed snorting cocaine-like powder while in the toilet, refuses to resign (photos/video)

A shocking footage has emerged of Cllr Neil Rix – the Mayor of the Kent coastal town of Dover, England, snorting a white substance that looked like cocaine with a pal encouraging him from behind.
Despite the concrete evidence visible to everyone who watches the video, the Mayor claims he is the victim of a blackmail plot and that he won't resign as the incident is not 'recent' and what he was snorting could be 'vim or icing sugar'.
Speaking after the footage was uploaded to YouTube on Tuesday night, he said:
“The video forms part of a police investigation into the fact I am being blackmailed. It did not happen recently. I was set up, pushed into it and coerced. Someone had put drugs into my beer and I did not know I was being filmed.”
The 54-year-old says he won’t be resigning as “it could have been sherbet, Vim or icing sugar”.

He added:
“I just feel I have let down my family but I will get over it. I have had a lot of support from friends and family, people that know me.” I had never done this before in my life. I had been set up right from the start. This was from before I was mayor, and even deputy mayor.
I hadn’t long been a councillor. “I know I shouldn’t have done it – I was drunk, and that was it. I can only apologise to my friends and family for putting them through it.”
The footage of Cllr Rix which he claims was shot before he became town mayor, shows the councillor, snorting a white substance through a banknote while his male companion can be heard encouraging him from behind.
He is heard saying: “Yeah, go on, you do the big one.”
Cllr Rix then asked: “Are you sure?”
To which the other man replied: “Yeah, go on.” before he bent over and snorted the substance for 8 seconds.

The Nigerian 'Rat Race' animated series

A fresh and exciting animated TV/Web series is currently in production by Nigerians, for Nigerians. “Rat Race” is a 2016 Nigerian 2D animated series written and produced by Michael Adukeh and Lionel Spiff. The series would be directed by Mesh Ad Studios and produced by Redmonkeyz Media.

Rat Race” follows the lives of two rats across suburban Nigeria as they tackle everyday Nigerian problems in a humorous, satirical and reflective way. Set in modern day Nigeria, "Rat Race" features Nkapi (voiced by Michael Adukeh), an alpha rat, cunning, smart and ambitious  and Nka (voiced by Lionel Spiff), a dull, easy going and sluggish rat often gullible to Nkapi’s schemes.

Nka
A slim house rat with dull grey color that mostly reflects his personality. Nka is slow and while seemingly unserious and “dopey”, he does possess a strong moral compass that shows consistently during their adventures. Not as intelligent as Nkapi but he’s still very humanistic and mostly observant, and by far the more grounded of the two. Nka being easygoing and adaptable is always useful. He hardly comes up with great ideas but doesn’t make them less unsuccessful nonetheless and he’s very loyal to Nkapi. He often gets ridiculed for his loyalty from his eccentric protagonist duo, but always remains happy and giddy. Nka’s love interest is Winch, a cat he’s willing to die for. Yes, we did say a cat a rat is willing to die for.

Winch
She is a sexy, conniving, scamming, cunning and very sarcastic plus sized, house cat. Even though her original owners are from Warri in Delta State, Nigeria, her mannerisms are similar to a foreign cat from the United States. Her true speech tone comes out when she is angry, usually when Nka is trying his luck. Winch is snobby, smug and sees no interest in those who seek her attention. She probably has a sweet friendly side to her, if anybody’s brave enough to get close to her, they just might see she’s not so dangerous. Winch’s lifelong goal is to move out of her neighbourhood, take over the world, kill all the rats and….men, in that exact order.

“Considering the challenges and myriad of experiences an average Nigerian encounters, we felt that we would be depicting our problems and ways of life in an entertaining way but also in a way that calls for thought, reflection and action.” said Writer Michael Adukeh.
“Rat Race” has a little something for everyone - it features film/pop-culture references, social concepts and also has grounded, down-to-earth stories and a unique verbal tone and it is guaranteed to be an adventure full of the typical Nigerian humour, memorable characters and relatable content”
